Monday, 10/22
Daily Objective:
I will…
  • Know what an appositive is and why it’s used.
  • Be able to recognize an appositive when it’s used.
  • Be able to use an appositive in my writing using proper punctuation.
Procedures:
HW:
  • Word Wisdom pages 46-47 due Wednesday; pages 48-49 due Thursday.
  • Prepare for 30-word Posttest Friday. (Study Guide is available.)
  • Remember that the Grading Quarter ends this Friday!!!! All late/missing work must be in before then!
    • Students earning a C- or lower received a print-out of their grade, requiring parent signature.

Tuesday, 10/23 (Mrs. Tolin will be out 1st period due to DAT meeting)
Daily Objective:
I will…
  • Check my current understanding of appositives (then…)
  • Apply knowledge of appositives.
Procedures:
  • Discuss correct answers to yesterday’s appositive practice; Review
  • Complete Appositive Worksheet (turn in).
  • When complete, students may choose:
    • 1) use time to work brainstorm/meet with “Poe Project” groups;
    • 2) work on word wisdom workbook pages
    • 3) study for Friday’s 30-word posttest (study guides are available).
HW:
  • If possible, go on to Wiki page to look for the first two “Poe Death Clues” that will be posted!!! J
  • Word Wisdom pages 46-47 due Wednesday;
  • 30-word Posttest Friday.
  • Obtain a copy of Miracle Boys by November 4th.

Wednesday, 10/24
Daily Objective:
I will…
  • Understand “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.
Procedures:
  • Volunteers may come up to SmartBoard to look for “Poe Death Clues” on wiki page---model for others in the classroom what they are/where to find them/ how to use them on Project, etc.
  • Check Word Wisdom HW credit for completion;
  • Begin reading “The Raven”—complete Guided Rdg questions together while reading
    • (Only got to stanza 11)
HW:
  • Complete any Guided Reading Questions left unanswered (Stanzas 1-11 only)
  • Obtain a copy of Miracle Boys by November 4th.

Thursday, 10/25
Daily Objective:
I will…
  • Check my understanding of Unit 2 words
  • Be able to define and identify examples of poetic devices used by Edgar Allan Poe in “The Raven”, such as: internal rhyme, end rhyme, repetition and assonance.
  • Understand “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.
Procedures:
  • Word Wisdom HW due (correct answers.)
  • Define and demonstrate: internal rhyme, end rhyme, repetition and assonance.
  • Identify the figurative language in stanzas 1-11
  • Continue/finish reading the “The Raven”, responding to Guided Reading questions along the way.
  • Begin HW
HW:
  • Complete all “Identifying Figurative Language” sections on Guided Rdg handout for “The Raven”
  • Study for tomorrow’s 30-word Unit 2 Test (that will go on this Quarter grade)
  • Obtain a copy of Miracle Boys by November 4th

Friday, 10/26

  • Demonstrate mastery of Unit 2 words
  • Check my understanding of figurative language including poetic devices (internal rhyme, end rhyme, repetition and assonance)
Procedures:

  • Obtain a copy of Miracle Boys by November 4th
  • Conduct research for group project
  • Prepare for quiz on Monday over “The Raven”
